Making Travel Fun for the Whole Family
Washington Dulles International Airport, in partnership with NASA, has transformed the travel experience for families with its vibrant Kids’ FunWay play area. Designed and manufactured by Soft Play, this unique space offers young travelers a chance to explore, play, and learn, making their airport adventure as memorable as their destination.
Engaging Play for Young Aviators
The Kids’ FunWay play area features an aviation theme inspired by the wonders of flight. Here’s what kids can enjoy:
- “Tommy Tower” Air Traffic Control Play Structure: Modeled after the iconic Dulles air traffic control tower, this interactive centerpiece includes a fun slide.
- “Futuristic” Play Jets: Two jet structures invite kids to climb and imagine piloting their own aircraft.
- Interactive Climbing Features: Children can scale playful luggage and tires, burn off energy, and spark creativity.
- Educational Panels: Kid-friendly displays teach fascinating facts about aviation, including how airplanes achieve lift and fly at 550 miles per hour.
Fun Beyond the Play Structures
For kids seeking digital entertainment, the area features a Play Me video game console with over 100 games available in six languages. Children, tweens, and even parents can enjoy solo or two-player gaming sessions, adding another layer of fun.
Convenience for Families and Travelers
While kids explore, parents and guardians can relax at nearby counter seating equipped with charging ports for cell phones, tablets, and laptops. The thoughtful design ensures that everyone in the family is catered to.
Location and Access
Located in Concourse B near Gate B70, the Kids’ FunWay is open to children under 12 who are no taller than 42 inches. Adult supervision is required to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
A Dedication to Excellence in Family Travel
The Kids’ FunWay was unveiled in 2016 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring NASA representatives, a live Orville mascot, and students from the Winwood Children’s Center in Gainesville, Va.
